Teddies bring comfort to small patients

StarLight is delighted to have been chosen by Whitcoulls in The Plaza to receive the teddies donated by their customers.  These go to Ward 21, teenagers with cancer, CAFS, the Children’s Ward, and the Community Mental Health Centre, as well as to community groups supporting those with mental illness.

When Kaylee van Day went into the Children’s Ward to have her tonsils out, she was given a teddy for herself and some to give to other children in the ward.  Kaylee saw a little boy crying because he was frightened to have his IV line removed.  Kaylee hopped out of her bed and took the little boy a teddy.  He calmed down immediately and the line was removed.  Since then Kaylee has returned to the ward each Christmas to take the teddies for the children.
